Q: Who is eligible for the Exceptional Family Member Program?

A: ANY legal dependant of an Active Duty Service Member residing with the sponsor with a health, medical or special education need. This can include, but is not limited to:

Spouse

Adopted child

Child

Foster child

Step-child

Parents/In-Laws [if legal dependants]

Q: What conditions qualify for the EFMP?

A: The Exceptional Family Member Program is here to help military dependents with an educational, emotional, or medical need.  Some conditions that would qualify a dependent for enrollment into the Exceptional Family Member Program are:

Asthma

ADD/ADHD

Autism

Oppositional Defiant Disorder

Bi-Polar

Mental Retardation

Depression

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Cerebral palsy

Asperger's Syndrome

Dyslexia 

Developmental Delays

Multiple Sclerosis

Cancer

Physical  Therapy

Crohn's Disease

Occupational Therapy

Speech Therapy

Children who are on an IEP or 504 plan with their school may qualify for the Exceptional Family Member Program. For more information, please contact the EFMP.

Q: How do I enroll in the EFMP?

A: The office staff can provide enrollment forms, offer help in the preparation of the forms, review completed forms for accuracy and forward the enrollment package to Headquarters Marine Corps. Click Here for more details.

Q: What are some of the benefits of enrolling in the EFMP?

A: 1) 40 hours of respite care per month
2) TriCare ECHO enrollment* (*Eligibility assessment  process)

Q: What does the ECHO (Extended Care Health Options) program provide?

A: ECHO provides additional medical coverage from TriCare (conus only) such as:  special education, durable equipment and rehabilitation care.

Q: Are families enrolled in the EFMP able to be stationed overseas?

A: Overseas assignments for all service members and their dependants require screening.  If sufficient care is determined as not available, EFMP will work to ensure a duty location where both career and EFM needs are met.

Q: Does the EFMP provide relocation support?

A: The installation EFMP Case Managers at both the losing and gaining installations will assist in the transition of medical and educational care. Their goal is to ensure that families enjoy a continuum of care that will continue throughout their sponsor’s Marine Corps career and provide a seamless medical and educational transition for the EFM.

Q: How can EFMP help my Exceptional Family Member with Individual Education Plan (IEP)?

A: Your Case worker will assist you with issues ranging from school services, access to therapies, related resources and provide workshops to help families learn to be their family  member’s  best advocate.

Q: I am part of the EFMP.  Do I rate priority housing?

A: Priority housing for USMC enrolled families is now determined by the HQMC EFMP office via the medical screening team.
